David Beisel Born: March 4, 1975 Hometown: Goshen, Ohio David Beisel has been riding horses for more than 25 years, and training professionally for more than 12. Beisel was born into an equestrian family in Greenwood, MO. His mother, Carlie, is still an active horsewoman, training horses and students at her Settlers Acre Farm. Beisel’s father, Jim, was a professional huntsman for the Mission Valley Hunt in Kansas City. Growing up on a 100-acre horse farm caused Beisel to be around all aspects of horsemanship, from caring for a newborn foal to haymaking - his family did it all! Beisel began riding with his Pony Club at age 6, and he made it to the C3 level. He showed in the pony hunter divisions as a youngster, and also fox hunted. Throughout his junior years, Beisel showed in the following divisions: pony hunter, children’s hunter, junior hunter, children’s jumper, junior jumper and the Medal and Maclay classes. He qualified for both the USEF Medal Finals in Harrisburg, PA, and the ASPCA Maclay Finals. David represented zone 7 in the Prix de States for the junior jumper division in Harrisburg, PA. He also went to Young Riders Championships. In 1993, Beisel won Gold for the U.S. competing in the Junior Invitational held in Caracas, Venezuela. He showed in his first Grand Prix when he was 17 years old. Beisel moved away from home when he was 18 to learn from some of the best in the business. He has worked under Rick Francher, Dennis Murphy, Aaron Vale, Andrea King and Mindy Darst. He was involved with all aspects of running a large operation at Lochmoor Stables. Beisel rode professionally, trained and coached students and horses for five years under Mindy Darst. He taught all levels of lessons, qualified and rode horses at indoors, and was the 1998 WCHR Reserve Champion Professional for the Midwest region. Beisel opened his own show stable in 1999. David Beisel Stables has grown to include 40 client show horses, as well as a public riding school program. He works with all levels of horses and students, from walk-trot and short stirrup to Grand Prix. Beisel coaches junior riders in the equitation classes, pony kids in the ponies, and can be found patiently instructing his group of novice adults. David Beisel Stables has three local horse shows each year. The shows are OHJA-, KHJA- and IHJA-rated. In 2009, Beisel and the Thoroughbred/Selle Francais cross Moet Walk were third in the $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix at the end of February. In September, they collected another third-place finish, this time in the $25,000 Animal SOS Rescue Grand Prix at Gallop in the Glen. At the Atlanta Fall Classic in November, Moet Walk and Beisel went onto a fourth-place finish in the $25,000 EMO Grand Prix. Beisel also had a strong 2009 season with Patoile. In March, they were sixth in the $50,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix in Ocala. They following week this pair topped the field in the $50,000 Ring Power Grand Prix at the Winter Ocala Finals. Patoile also helped Beisel clinch the title of Ovation Leading Rider at the Horse Shows by the Bay Series in July. In October, Beisel and Patoile were second in the puissance class at the Washington International Horse Show. Beisel began the 2010 campaign at the Lake St. Louis Winter Series Horse Shows. In February at HITS in Ocala, Beisel and Patoile were fourth in the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix. In May, Beisel and Moet Walk finished third in the $25,000 Grand Prix-Nat’l Std at HITS-on-the-Hudson I. The pair went on to win the $50,000 County Heir II Grand Prix in June. Beisel again was named the Ovation Leading Pro Jumper Rider at the Horse Shows by the Bay Series in July. To start off 2011, Beisel and Always Cullohill were fifth in the $25,000 Grand Prix at Lake St. Louis Hunter/Jumper II. The pair then finished fourth in the $30,000 Grand Prix of the Great Lakes. Beisel and Always Cullohill partnered again to improve to a second place finish at the $30,000 M/M Russell Fortune Jr. Memorial Grand Prix. In 2012, Beisel returned to Lake St. Louis Hunter/Jumper II to place third in the $25,000 Grand Prix with Always Cullohill. The pair then went on to place fourth in the $50,000 Grand Prix at the International of Omaha. The placings continued at the following show when they finished ninth in the $25,000 Grand Prix at the Brownland Farm Spring II show.
